Outreach, or what we call “Faith in Action,” is more than a collection of service projects. It is what we do to help God’s kingdom become a reality on earth.

At St. John’s, we are involved in a variety of organizations such as Capital Area Justice Ministry, Grace Mission, the Riley Elementary Mentoring Project, Prison Ministry, St. John’s Market, Tallahassee Community Remembrance Project, Habitat for Humanity, Episcopal Relief and Development, support for Cuba, and flower and meal deliveries, just to name a few. And, St. John’s Lively Café has been serving the Tallahassee community for more than 20 years.

It is our hope that each member of the church can find a meaningful way in which to serve God and our community, or put their faith into action!

Lent 2021: St. John’s Pays Off $2.8 million of Floridians’ Medical Debt

With a traditional “Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race” St. John’s issued a nontraditional Lenten challenge to members: raise $10,000 during Lent 2021, to forgive $1 million in medical debt for Florida families. Church members rose to the challenge and far exceeded the goal, raising $28,000, forgiving $2.8 million in medical debt. St. John’s did this in partnership with the nonprofit RIP Medical Debt, which stretches $1 into $100 by purchasing debt in bulk from debt collectors and hospitals. With help from organizations like St. John’s, RIP Medical Debt has paid off nearly $4 billion in medical debt since 2014. SEE NEWS COVERAGE ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
